Indonesia in 28 days

Bali - Seminyak, Kuta and Sanur

Nusa Penida
A gorgeous island off the coast of Bali, not many tourists go there. Anouk and I cruised around on a scooter for two days exploring beaches, viewpoints and temples.

Accidentally going a little off road

Kelinking beach

The hard hike down to the beach was definitely worth it

Suddenly monkeys came out of nowhere and claimed their place on Kelinking

The entrance to a temple inside a huge cave

At first it was all dark and there were a few little spots here and there set up for praying. We had expected more though.

Then suddenly all the lights appeared, we heard lots of voices and found hundreds of Buddhists coming here to pray and meditate.

... are they gonna check?

Stairway down to a temple, located on cliffs just above the sea.

It's hard to spot but they had Buddhist statues and fountains to rinse themselves before praying

Bali - Ubud

Traditional Luwak coffee, where the beans are fed to a palm civet, the animal you can see on the poster below, collected after it has pooped them back out and cleaned before being grounded.

Tiny banana

Yummy porridge for breakfast

Lombok - Kuta
We spent Christmas and my birthday on Lombok, an island next to Bali, basically just relaxing, taking some yoga classes and eating good food.

Christmas eve

The guys from our homestay and Anouk sang happy birthday and served cake when the clock hit midnight the 27th.

Gili Trawangan

There's no engine-driven vehicles on Gili T, so you either got around in small horse carriages or with rented bicycles.

We treated ourselves to a nice hotel for three days over New Year's

New year's eve. Fireworks on the beach.

00:00

Curing the hangover January 1st on the beach. A goat randomly wandered around

Streetfood from the nightmarket

Snorkeltrip

Lombok - Sanuar
We went back to Lombok to see the north of the island and, on our second day, hike up Mount Rinjanji, although we didn't go all the way to the summit. It took 14 hours and was incredibly hard. The guide said he usually did the trip in 2 days, with a night's sleep up on top, but we had to catch a flight the next day and thought we could do it in one day..

Women working in the rice fields

This picture is taken within 5 minutes of the start of our trek, when we were still happy and smiling. We didn't know what was awaiting us.

A lychee

We reached the lake at the top of the volcano after 7 hours.

Bathing in hot springs on the top which was sooo soothing for our sore, dying muscles, before starting the 6 hour journey back down.
