I was really sad to leave Byron Bay after 10 days - it's been one of my favorite places in Australia. I stayed at the Aviary - a very chilled hostel with a different concept: it's all camping, the common "room" is couches and chairs under a rainsheet. It was one of the best hostels I've stayed at here in Oz! The three guys running it knew how to make their guests feel like home and I met lots of great people.
Byron itself is a wonderful town, full of hippies and surfers. To fit in you have to surf, wear lots of ankle bracelets, under NO circumstances wear shoes (this is a very important one), and last but not least live freely without judging others. Everyone is very relaxed, dresses and behaves how they please and let others do exatly the same which is something I loved and learned from.
Another plus is that there's heaps of cafés with healthy/vegan/sustainable/really yummy food (it's been forbidden to set up a McDonald's, and there's no other fast food chain in town either).

We had a few days where it was pouring down. RIP to the belongings of the people who forgot to close their tent. |

Lots of partying in Byron! |

Anouk and I crossed paths in Byron and spent a few days together. See you in Asia! |

Nimbin, a little hippie village outside of Byron. Only place in Australia where you can publicly buy space cookies. |
I left to stay in Yamba, a little surf town south of Byron, for a few days. I saw dolphins, surfed, and did Shane's tour - to be recommended if you're in the area!
